Hi! I’m Kim self-taught baker, designer + artist! But no stranger around the kitchen when it comes to cakes, desserts + confections!
I fondly remember the variety of cookies + confections we always had at Christmas time.
All of the traditional recipes from my grandparents were passed down to me, along with a marble topped buffet my grandmother used to prepare her confections on. Which is proudly a part of my history, story + studio.
Those recipes continue to be a part of our family. They did have to be adjusted + adapted however after I finished my chemotherapy + my body would no longer process eggs + dairy. And getting a second chance at life, I did not want to take life from something else, so I embraced the vegan lifestyle.
I wasn’t able to find good vegan options, so decided to create my own.
I used some of the family recipes, which I adapted to vegan + created some new ones, new traditions.
Every Christmas now, you’ll find my variety of vegan Christmas cookies + confections. Which all started with my grandpa + grandma, appreciate by my mom + myself.
I’ve always made my two daughters their birthday cakes since they were babies, who are now both engaged.
The last couple cakes I designed + created for family, my daughters loved + said…”Mom you should do this.” They believed in me, along with my ever supportive husband. And that was the end of the story. Or should I say, the beginning of a new one.
I recently left a stressful career choice. I wanted to be surrounded by joy + all things positive + fun! Cake + desserts is a beautiful way to do that being part of others cherished + memorable occasions + events. My passion + purpose collided. Within minutes Layers of Love was founded.
